Review

Hotel Awa is an architectural marvel with breathtaking view of the Osorno volcano from its secluded position on the shoreline of Lake Llanquihue. After 2 ½ years of construction, Awa opened its doors in November 2016 and has become the place to stay for those looking to treat themselves whilst staying in this part of Chile’s Lake district. Hotel Awa is located about 30 minutes east of Puerto Varas, so might not be ideal for those wanting easy access to the town. Personally, we feel that Awa provides everything you need and that the isolation is in fact part of its captivating appeal.

Location

Hotel Awa is on private land, granting its guests exclusive access to the beach and lake. Guests can chose to swim, kayak or paddleboard; or take a bike for a spin if you prefer terra firma. To the front of property, between the road and the main building, are gardens where you will also find their greenhouse – featured heavily on their seasonal menus. The hotel is approx. 30km from Puerto Varas.

Rooms

There are a total of 22 rooms at Hotel Awa, all with lake views, plus a stunning 4-bedroom villa adjacent to the main building. It really can’t be overstated how well-designed the rooms (indeed the whole hotel) are, maximising light and views; along with cute touches like electric blinds! The hotel has 17 Superior rooms (one of which is wheelchair accessible) and 5 Suites, that include a living room area. The two-storey villa can be privately booked and features 1 Suite, 1 Superior room and 2 Standard rooms; plus a spacious living room, open-plan kitchen/diner, 6 bathrooms and a private patio with direct access to the gardens & lake.

Layout

The Awa is split over 5 storeys. The ground level reception is an awe-inspiring introduction to the hotel. The open –plan design featuring the contrast of exposed concrete, local cypress tree wood and rock slabs sourced from the local volcanoes is a sight to behold. You are immediately met with a welcome drink and invited to relax in the living area. Downstairs leads to the dining area and open kitchen, serving locally-sourced seasonal dishes. Above is the pool and Spa, also with spectacular views of the lake; plus all accommodation.

Facilities

Hotel Awa’s spa features a beautiful heated pool, along with a sauna, steam room, and hydro-massage pool. Numerous treatments can be booked. There is also a gym, again with the obligatory lake-views. Outdoor yoga is available, as is plethora of excursions that are included with Awa’s all-inclusive rate. Underfloor heating is present throughout the property.

Food, great views from anywhere in the hotel, lake access

Isolated, but not necessarily a bad thing
